Book review of The Tipping Point

Gladwell, Malcolm (2001)`s The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference

The tipping point: how little things can make a big difference is one of Malcom Gladwell´s famous book. The title of this book is very attractive. The author trying to explains the importunacy of handling little things and how it will make successfully. This book is describing social and business activities in past years. The author used some kind adoption curve chats and it is denoting social and business (marketing) trends. The author explains in this book about adoption of curves and how it will make the tipping point. the mentioning some fundamental concepts, the little changes making big effect and this changes is not going smoothly but in dramatic moment and tipping point as a contagiousness process. The author mentioned somany important idea in this book. The world of tipping point is considered as a place of expected from unexpected because radical change has more possibility in here.
The author explains the major component’s of the tipping point in this book. He divided it in to three types. They are the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor and the Power of context. These are the core values of the tipping points. Each agent has some good power in tipping. Then he shows how connectors will influence in specific trends. The connectors are known as highly influential agent through in community. Gladwell describes about stickiness factor and stickiness factor is commonly known as a one part of communication.
The author Explains how sticky message affected media environment and how it will make as a irresistible. Epidemics have important role in society and when it will occur and it would be very sensitive part in every times. It also knows as power of context. The author didn’t try to make significant factors which have power change for tipping points and it is one of the main disadvantages of this book. This book is drawing city crimes New York city in the 1990`s and how occurred. The small changes in environment is affecting deeply in human behaviour. In early days connectors had good role in process of adoption. The information path from innovators to adopter is critical. The book is giving many ideas about tipping point and how it will affect markets trends. This book is very much helpful for marketing studies.

COMPARING PAPER MAIL AND ELECTRONIC MAIL

COMPARING PAPER MAIL AND ELECTRONIC MAIL

Describe the “network externalities” for paper mail and E-mail?

Paper mails is said to be a process of sending information from one individual or household to another, which can be inform of letter writing, While E-mail is the process of sending information between computers which is done electronically.
According to John .E.Lopalka and William.H.”the value of goods to the purchaser or consumer, depends on the purchaser expectation about the future size of the network. In addition to that, I can say that those who use paper mail an e-mail generates a network and thee networks exist in as much as there is increase in the value of the products
E-mail being a recent technology and also which is faster than paper mails tends to be more advantageous and may bring the entire network users to adopt the technology. I can say that since paper mail does not reach people on time as when compared with e-mail, it is now said that paper mails gave rise to e-mails as its new technology which now makes information easier and convenient for people.
Paper mail is not expensive when compared with e-mails E-mail has a disadvantage which hen compared with paper mail make people to rely on paper mail and the disadvantage is when there is power failure, this seems to seize communication.

Are paper mail and E-mail always interactive

To my best of knowledge, I can say that a paper mail could be interactive because it involves conveying information from person to person which I can say, brings good relationship which exist among each other, while E-mail is non-interactive because it is permanently private and tends to restrict people

How does mail and e-mail work in your home country? How many are reachable What about speed and safety?

Paper mail and E-mail which are sources of information work well in my country but are only interrupted by people who are in charge of providing the required and adequate services to the public. I can also say that paper mails are more reachable because it is cheap can be easily affordable to the masses. But E-mail I very expensive in my country due to the high rate at which people subscribe with as a result of incomplete circulation of network an non-existence of network in some cities. In my country, paper mail is most commonly used than e-mail because of safety but the speed rate is always slow. For example, it take about 6-8 working days for a registered mail within my country to be delivered. In situations like this,we prefer E-mails,since it can be deleivered at a faster rate. In addition to that,I can say that e-mail in my country will be more reliable if there are no network failures and good management.

What is required of the customer/user when using postal service and e-mails service?

The customer or user is required to pay for the services rendered to him or her. The person needs to pay for postage materials (envelope and stamps)
The customer has to make choice on what services that will be better for him or her rather than being tied or complaining.

Is E-mail a substitution for paper mail

E-mail would have been a substitution to paper mail because it makes information easier, faster and more convenient to people and in the world of business it has also connected the world in a globe and this I support Manual castell’s views “the new techno-economic system seem to induce uneven development simultaneously increasing wealth and poverty productively and social exclusion, with its effect being differently distributed in various areas of the world and I various social group”.

What will happen to paper mail if fewer people use it or if fewer letters are sent?

I believe that if few people use the paper mail. it will take it to be more efficient an effective in the area of service because, they will have a fewer number of people to attend to unlike when a large number of people are using it.

What happens to E-mail use if people getting E-mail do not answer?

In my own understanding, if people do not respond to their mails, the technology will be as good as not existing but according to Rogger Silverstone,Eric Hirch and David Morley(1992)in their own views “They are technologies and like every other technology, they ill continue to have impact on social an economic order of the household with the world beyond their front door an they do this or fail to do this in complex and often contradictory ways”

TECHNOLOGY AT HOME.

TECHNOLOGY AT HOME-CELL PHONE APPROPRIATION PHASE:

Cell phones have become a necessity for many people throughout the world. The ability to keep in touch with family, business associates. Cell phone is termed to be one of the fastest means of communication and has an important role to play in our daily activities.
I strongly believe that it is the perfect way to stay connected with others which also provides the household with sense of security. For instance, the household may need cell phone in event of emergency. To that effect, most households may buy cell phone because it allows help to reach quickly and safely.
In addition to that, modern cell phones are capable of internet access, sending and receiving photos and files, and some of the cell phones are equipped with GPS technology, allowing for use in most locations around the world and allowing the cell phone to be found or the user located in the event of loss or emergency. So after having experienced this, the household might decide to buy a cell phone since it can serve almost the purpose as laptop, and this situation, it doesn’t inconvenience the household to move around with laptop.
It was only in those days that the households were discouraged in the use of cell phones because the y were bulky, expensive, and some even needed a base unit that had to be transported along with phone. Also during that early times, the households were experiencing poor reception and the major problem is that the cell phone, could only be used in a certain location where the signal was particularly strong, but due to the advancement of cell technology, many households have not been finding it difficult to use cell phone. Due to the improvement and installation of satellites and wireless services, the household have now decided to be buying cell phone and its cost was now reduced so that an average household can afford to buy one.

OBJECTIFICATION:

In recent times, many households have developed interest in cell phones, some say that since they can buy cell phone that has camera, that it saves them money rather than buying a separate camera and phone, with this latest development of technology(invention),this have encouraged many households. Some household also say that they will only buy cell phones because of its functions which can help to reduce the issue of buying laptops because most of the cell phones can do the work of laptops. So for now, the cell phones are accessible because the producers made it to be cheap so as to enable the household to procure it,also, the cell phone can be accessed from any part of the world now and one can easily communicate at his/her own private time and at any place. The households have considered many factors with regards to comparing the services of cell phone to that of laptop, and I can say that since the use of cell phone is more encouraging in the sense that when ever one recharge his phone, he will able to make calls, and when there is no credit balance in the cell phone, the user of the cell phone can also receive calls, but in terms of laptops, the user must subscribe on monthly besis, and when he/she fails to subscribe, it will be disconnected. So the use of cell phone is more reliable and cheaper

INCORPORATION PHASE:

The cell phone which is a necessity for every household is needed for different purpose, for example, when people are very sick at home or when there is an accident, it is now the use of cell phone that will be used to communicate the first aid department/ambulance so as to give the person quick medical attention, so if the effective use of cell phone is not encouraged, it can help to save people’s life (emergency).
The modernization of cell phones has rendered services to people, the cell phone has many fuctions, depending on the particular product or model the person acquired, sometimes when the household wants to acquire a cell phone, he looks at the functions, depending on what he has in mind of using it for. Some may acquire it by going to the stores or by direct transaction with the manufacturer, and the cell phone manufacturers have produced a wide range of cell phones which sell for prices that are affordable

CONVERSATION PHASE:

This is a forum where there is exchange of information about the cell phone and this information could get to the household through advertisements from the TV or from papers, most often some cell phone manufacturing companies move about, trying to know households opinions with regards to there technologies, it is at the end of the conversation with the household that the manufacturers will know the areas to improve there technology.
There is another means of conversation which the cell phone communication manufacturers have created which is called the customer service department, and all contacts, conversation,
Enquiries and information are free, so this will also make it easy for the public and private about the new technologies. It is also during this period that the household makes enquiries about the cell phone accessories and the maintenance

CONCLUSION:

In my own point of view, I feel that the household’s expectation is on new technology and how the will benefit from it, also there have been a good relationship among the public and private household and also the manufacturers of cell phone have also in mind to work more effectively to see that the problems of the households are solved
A remarkable result was recorded that the households have never had in mind of discarding cell phones even when there seems to me economical problems.
